Benefits and Rewards

West Midlands LGA values its employees greatly and, therefore, offers them the following benefits and rewards:

Free training and development opportunities – Due to West Midlands LGA having its own Training and Consultancy Team, all its employees have the opportunity to attend a wide variety, and vast number, of training courses free of charge. (For more details see, the ‘Learning and Development’ section).

Pension scheme – Employees of West Midlands LGA have the opportunity to join the Local Government Pension Scheme. This scheme has many advantages, over others, including the fact that it is highly subsidised by the employer. Further details can be viewed at the LGPS website, http://www.lgps.org.uk

Annual leave – The basic annual leave entitlement is 24 days, with a further five days’ leave on the completion of five years’ continuous local government service. In addition, all employees are granted the 8 public holidays plus an extra statutory day at Christmas.

Flexible working scheme – Many employees of West Midlands LGA can work in accordance with the organisation’s flexible working scheme. This allows flexibility with lunch breaks, and also the times an employee starts and finishes work, subject to agreement from their line manager. The operation of this scheme can help an employee to manage commitments between work and home life.

Home working – A better work life balance is encouraged by West Midlands LGA and home working is recognised as a useful way of achieving this. It is, therefore, an option for some employees of West Midlands LGA. It can also be a way of reducing unnecessary travel.

Childcare allowance scheme – West Midlands LGA supports the principle of a family friendly working environment and, as such, wishes to develop a culture in which both male and female employees can seek to balance both their personal and professional commitments. The primary objective of this scheme is to encourage new parents to return to work following the mother’s period of maternity absence. The scheme enables employees of pre-school children (i.e. not in full time education) to receive a flat day rate contribution towards the costs of child care.
