North Warwickshire Borough Council

North Warwickshire lies right in the centre of England.  Although bordering the major cities of Birmingham and Coventry, the borough is predominantly rural green belt, with three market towns and numerous villages.  It is the most northerly of the districts in Warwickshire, and an attractive place to live, with easy access to many heritage, cultural, sporting and leisure attractions, as well as plenty of open countryside.

The good communications which the Borough enjoys - the M42, the M6, the M6 Toll and the A5 all pass through the Borough, as does the west coast main railway line, with airports at Birmingham, East Midlands and Coventry on the doorstep – means that it is now a centre for a number of major distribution companies.  These service industries have replaced the traditional industries such as mining and hatting as the major employers, although the Borough is proud of its heritage in these fields.  Although we still have the only working pit in the West Midlands at Daw Mill many of the former colliery sites have been restored and are now industrial parks including the state of the art BMW engine factory.  The world famous Belfry has hosted the Ryder Cup four times.

The Council has set its own 2020 Vision of being recognised for providing high quality services to its communities, through listening, learning and leading with openness.

Whilst it will seek to do this across all of its services, its short-term focus will be to deliver on seven priorities with a view to playing its part in improving the quality of life of local people.  These are:

• Enhancing community involvement and access to services

• Protecting and improving our environment
• Defending and improving our countryside and rural heritage
• Tackling health inequalities through improving well-being and providing leisure opportunities to our citizens
• Working with our partners to tackle crime, the fear of crime and antisocial behaviour
• Improving housing in the Borough by delivering more affordable housing and achieving the Decent Homes Standard for our own stock
• Making the best use of resources through achieving a balanced budget and developing

We do this through the staff we employ.  The Council has Investors in People status and being a small organisation is able to have jobs that are varied and flexible.  Everyone has the opportunity to have his/her ideas and opinions heard and considered.  All contributions from staff are valued.

Our employee benefits package includes flexible working/leave arrangements, free car parking, training & development opportunities, generous relocation package, lease car/car purchase scheme and a contributory final salary pension scheme.

We are committed to being an equal opportunities employer.  When recruiting and promoting staff the only consideration is the individual’s ability to do the job.  We welcome applicants from all backgrounds and as a disability symbol user, we operate a job interview guarantee scheme for applicants with a disability.
