We offer all employees the option of joining the Local Government Pension Scheme. This is a final salary pension scheme and attracts tax relief on your contributions.
The standard full-time working week is 37 hours. The Council has a flexi-time system, which if appropriate and the necessary cover for the service is provided, gives employees some control over the hours that they work. Wherever it is practicable we also operate various alternative working arrangements, such as part time working, term time only contracts, home-working, compressed working hours.
We work closely with the Trade Unions and consult widely in matters affecting employees, in relation to terms and conditions and in developing policies and procedures.
Our unions and management are committed to providing a good and safe working environment through agreeing local procedures and the provision of an occupational health service, if appropriate, to ensure a high level of attendance at work of healthy employees. From time to time we run events promoting healthy lifestyles. When necessary we provide a free counselling service.
A generous relocation package is available to eligible employees, who need to move home as a result of accepting an appointment. The scheme provides help towards removal expenses, legal fees, estate agents’ fees, disturbance expenses and additional accommodation costs.
Other eligible benefits are maternity leave above the statutory requirement, child-care vouchers, assisted car purchase scheme and a lease car scheme.
