Benefits and rewards
We believe in developing our people, rewarding their contribution and providing the friendly and supportive environment everyone needs to perform at their best.
Valuing diversity and promoting a ‘can-do’ culture, we’re dedicated to inspiring confidence and raising aspirations not just for our people – but for all of the people of Stoke-on-Trent. We’re proud of our work and the difference we make. And we’re dedicated to offering excellent training, a wide range of benefits and a variety of highly rewarding careers. So, if you’re looking for a career with a difference, make the most of your skills and potential as part of our team.
Competitive Salary – We offer wages to reflect the skills, experience and abilities of our people. All of our salary scales are reviewed regularly and normally you’ll receive a cost of living rise annually.
Excellent Pension Scheme – The Local Government Pension Scheme is a statutory, funded pension scheme and its benefits are defined and guaranteed in law. You’ll automatically become a member of the pension scheme unless you opt out, have previously opted out or are a casual employee.
Car User Allowance - Where the use of a car is essential to work, then an essential car user allowance is available. The allowance is based on an annual lump sum payment (which is paid on a monthly basis), plus an allowance based on the number of miles you do. For employees who use their own vehicle for the occasional journey, a casual car user allowance is payable and this also depends on the number of miles you do.
Assisted Car Purchase Scheme – We’ll consider making a loan for the purchase of, or deposit towards a car. This applies to all staff authorised to use a private car on official business that will travel at least 500 business miles per annum.
Childcare Vouchers - You can arrange for part of your salary to be ‘sacrificed’ in exchange for childcare vouchers, which will pay (in whole or in part), for the childcare services that you use. Within specified limits, these vouchers are non-taxable and exempt from National Insurance contributions so represent a saving for employees who receive them as part of their employment package.
Relocation – For some roles, a generous relocation package maybe available if you’ve to move house. If you’re eligible, financial assistance is available for removal, lodging, travelling, legal and other fees.
Discounted Services & Leisure Facilities - As an employee of the Council, you’ll be able to use some City services and Leisure facilities at reduced rates.
Employee Support Service – A free and confidential employee support service is available for staff to help cope with difficult family, work or personal situations. All the Counsellors work to the British Association for Counselling Code of Conduct and do not maintain or pass any records of the help they offer to the Council.
