The region also offers excellent educational facilities through its many schools and colleges. Office for Standards in Education (Ofsted) is a regulatory body who inspect not only educational institutions but also providers of education and/or care, namely:

Their aim is to ensure excellence in the care of children and young people. Their website (www.ofsted.gov.uk ) has easy search facilities to find educational establishments, care providers etc in all areas within the region. Inspection reports for each can also be found on their website.

The Learning and Skills Council, established in 2001, has the aim of making England better skilled and more competitive, by working towards its goal “to improve the skills of England’s young people and adults to ensure we have a workforce of world-class standard”. They achieve this by aiming to raise the participation and achievement of young people; increase adult demand for learning; raise skills levels for national competitiveness; improve the quality of education and training delivery; equalise opportunities through better access to learning.
