Learning and development
Sandwell MBC operates a Corporate Development Programme. This outlines the council’s corporate learning and development opportunities, and identifies training initiatives targeted at employees across all services areas, to support corporate performance priorities. The overall aim is to improve service delivery by enhancing the knowledge and skills of the workforce. This is to encompass and continually improve the high quality professional skills in the organisation.
Post Entry Training
All employees, regardless of age and grade, will receive sufficient training to undertake their duties efficiently and effectively. The majority of such training will be undertaken “on the job”, which is regarded as the most effective form of training.
If, when applying for a post, it states that you are either working towards the relevant qualification or are prepared to undertake training to achieve the relevant qualification, it may be necessary for you to attend an educational establishment to achieve this and you could qualify for day release facilities. Sandwell provides two types of assistance, namely:-
Financial – the service area can agree to meet the full cost of the course or make a contribution.
and/or
Time off – either to attend college or permission to utilise the flexi scheme for attendance.
