Equality and diversity
Wolverhampton City Council is committed to challenging inequality, discrimination and disadvantage.
Equality of opportunity for all sections of our community and of our workforce is an integral part of this commitment. When recruiting new members of staff, we make sure that equality principles are firmly embedded in all our employment policies and procedures.
We have a programme of positive action initiatives to support and develop groups in our workforce that are currently under-represented, such as ethnic minorities, women, people with disabilities and young people.
To give just two examples:
• all job applicants who have a disability and who meet the essential criteria for a job are guaranteed an interview
• our flexible working policy, which includes reduced hours working, job-sharing and other arrangements, is part of our commitment to supporting people with families.
