Finding your dream job
Have you decided it’s time to reach for your dream job?
To aid you during this exciting time, we have put together some tips that will help you along the way.
Establish what interests you - spend some time thinking about the role you want. Don’t waste time applying for any role you come across, in any profession. To help you narrow your search for your next role, you should start by spending some time thinking about what you disliked about your last role. Whether it was the organisation, the type of work, or the sector, you’ll want to avoid these factors this time!
Then think about the great days you’ve had at work. What was it that made that day so successful? Were there certain elements you enjoyed more than others?
These factors will help you to come up with your wish list for your ideal job. Pull together a ‘top ten list’ of things you’d like from your next role, including the values that matter to you, organisation culture, flexible working, and salary… just to name a few.
Once you have your checklist, you can start looking for roles to apply for. We may be biased, but we think WMJobs is the best place to start your search! We advertised over 27,500 roles in the public sector last year and always have a huge variety of career options available. We recommend that you sign up for an account and register for job alerts, this way you’ll find out about new opportunities that match your criteria as soon as they’re available.
We said we were biased, but another great platform is LinkedIn with many recruiters also using this as a search tool to find suitable candidates. It is a good idea to set up an account if you haven’t already got one; if you do, make sure your information is up to date to let recruiters find you. LinkedIn can also be used by you to find out more about prospective companies and their ethos.
Once you find a role you think would be a good fit for you make sure you research the company, this is important. The information you find could make or break your decision on whether to apply so investigate to avoid any surprises when you start!
So, you’ve found your passion and the role you’d like, and you’ve done your research… it’s time to apply! You’re on to a winner.
Good luck in your search from Team WMJobs!
