WMJobs at the Stoke-on-Trent Job Fair
The day kicked off at 9AM - setting up the stand and making sure banners were up and career guides were displayed, along with marketing material available for jobseekers to take away with them. Stoke-on-Trent City Council had vacancies displayed for all to see!
After a quick refuel with a coffee, the doors opened at 10AM. The events team hurried over to make us aware that jobseekers were queuing up since 9.30AM to get in! We knew at this point it was going to be a great day, with the opportunity to speak to a huge number of candidates about job opportunities and the benefits of working in the Public Sector.
WMJobs were on hand to sign up jobseekers to job alerts and support people with using the website. Within the first hour, we had over 50 prospective candidates come to our stand, and the stadium continued to fill up.
Andrea Hastelow - Workforce Development Manager at Stoke-on-Trent City Council (pictured below) spoke about her experience as an exhibitor.
“It’s been a great morning so far getting out and talking to local residents about jobs and careers at Stoke-on-Trent City Council and other local government opportunities."
As the morning went by, candidates continued to pour into the stadium and we were asked a number of questions from them. The most popular questions being:
"What type of jobs are available in the Public Sector?”
“What experience do I need to have to be able to work in the Public Sector?”
“How do I search for jobs and apply for ones I am interested in?”
Our Local Government Career Guide proved popular with jobseekers wanting to understand the great benefits in the sector and getting an idea of the range of roles within our region.
Linda Pugh – Senior HR, Pay & Conditions Liaison Officer and Demi Ratchford – Apprentice Workforce Planning from Stoke-on-Trent City Council (pictured here) also shared their feedback on the day!
“It's been good getting to meet people to see what jobs they are interested in and how we can help them with their career”
"We've enjoyed meeting local residents talking about what interests them and establishing what paths they want to take in their careers”
By 1PM as the Jobs Fair came to an end, we were still busy at the stand and had people coming up expressing an interest in Local Government Careers. It was a wonderful day promoting the sector, getting people signed up to WMJobs and discussing some great opportunities available to candidates.
