Castle Bromwich Hall Gardens is an early 18th Century Grade 2* listed walled garden, rescued by volunteers over 30 years ago, when the current independent Charitable Trust was formed. We are open to the public for over 250 days per year, run public events for education and fun and provide over 15,000 hours of volunteering .

The garden’s ten acres surround a Grade I listed Jacobean Hall, former seat of the Earls of Bradford, which is now privately owned and run separately as a hotel. Eight acres of the garden are enclosed by an 18/19th Century tall brick wall, which is punctuated by two renovated baroque Orangery and Summer House buildings and Sphinx topped corner piers.

We care for over 600 species of mainly pre-1760 plants and fruit, including 63 varieties of heritage apples, pears and soft fruit, and two kilometres of glorious hedging. Although not a botanic institution, our historic species planting positively contributes to maintaining historic data and biodiversity, and it has been recognised by RHS as one of their Partner Gardens. Numerous parterres and a holly maze are among the many features loved by our volunteers and visitors alike.

We provide:

·      A unique heritage garden of rare landscape design, with splendid architectural features

·      A breath of air in the city – a healthy place both physically and mentally for visitors, local people and volunteers

·      A safe area for children to take their first steps in discovering the outdoors and the wild – especially for inner city children

·      A community resource, providing a place of welcome for all, particularly through our volunteering projects and support for community groups

·      Positive stewardship of biodiversity through our heritage fruit, plants and our care of wildlife

A wild haven – the garden and adjacent open area abuts the Tame Valley
