Senior Environmental Protection Officer – Ref: EE03221
Salary: G10 £37,890 - £42,821 per annum

At Walsall Council we believe that people are at the heart of everything we do. We are transforming the way the council works so that we can provide a better customer experience, increase staff satisfaction, and improve how our services engage with communities, clients and others to achieve better efficiency and performance.

As we strive to create a healthy and sustainable environment in which people can live, work and thrive, our Environmental Protection Team have a key role to play. We now require an experienced Senior Environmental Protection Officer who is accomplished in their field of work, and able to carry out duties both autonomously and collaboratively with partners and stakeholders, supporting others in the team, and where required assisting with their development.

If you would like to join a highly competent team of officers handling a demanding and wide range of environmental pollution issues then we would like to hear from you.

The Environmental Protection team is committed to delivering a high quality service, and comprises professional officers that conduct work primarily based on industrial pollution control.

Following restructuring of services we have a vacancy for a confident, self-motivated person who can manage an interesting and often technically challenging workload, and who can contribute positively to the future success of our team. If you are seeking a new challenge and wish to develop your skills and expertise in environmental protection, we want to hear from you.

We are looking for someone with significant industrial and/or commercial experience, preferably gained in a regulatory capacity with a local authority. Experience is necessary in dealing with matters concerning air pollution/air quality, ground contamination, noise, statutory nuisances and planning development matters related to these themes, together with experience of Integrated Pollution Prevention and Control A2 and Part B processes. The successful candidate will be able to pursue a specialist role within these areas of work and be required to attend council committees, council and other meetings, and attend technical or specialist groups within and outside of normal working hours to represent the service.

Our future involves a blended approach to working to meet the diverse demands of the services we deliver, the health and wellbeing of our staff and our customers’ expectations. On this basis we take the view that work is what we do, not where we do it, which will see a mixture of office and home–based working.
