Working times are 32 hours per week - 07.30am - 2:30pm. Half hour unpaid break, Term Time only

Cityserve is the Birmingham City Council multi- award-winning catering service for school meals providing fresh and nutritious food for school kitchen across the UK, healthy eating is a continuous theme throughout all our menus, and we are committed to the well -being of pupils. You will be responsible for the day-to-day management of the catering arrangements at the School.

The applicant will be required to establish and develop and excellent relationship with the Client

Duties will include preparing and cooking meals for pupils; planning and controlling all aspects of the service including costing, Allergens, stocktaking, staff training,  use of laptop and electronic book keeping and keeping appropriate records. Experience of cooking for large numbers is essential, along with some supervisory experience.

The applicant as a minimum must already hold a Food Safety Level 3 Qualification and you will be required to undertake all training relevant for the role.

Be an excellent, enthusiastic, can do, cook, order and checking in of food in line with company procedures.

Preparation and cooking of food to agreed standards, compliance of menus in accordance with current policy, cost and identifying site specific unit needs.

Organise and oversee the presentation and serving of meals and other refreshments in line with site arrangements.

Carry out various daily / weekly IT tasks in an accurate and timely manner.

To achieve financial control of food, labour and non food purchases in line with targets and to include adjustment of hours as required. Maintaining all the necessary records and controls to include daily recording and control of cash in accordance with procedures, carrying out stock checks, costings and analysis sheets.

Legislation – be aware of all legislation. Specify and carry out day-to-day responsibilities for these requirements. To ensure on site training of staff, e.g. Health & Safety, Food Safety, Food Hygiene, COSHH, Allergens, etc.

Professionally plan and host in partnership with the school half termly promotional activity to generate profitable sales, sustained customer uptake and promote the service.

Ensure on-job training is carried out in all practical areas, to include induction, allergens, basic food hygiene and safe catering, policies and procedures, e.g. equal opportunities, no smoking, customer care and accurate completion of all staff training records.

Identify, through carrying out Personal Development Interviews, any specific training needs in the unit and bring to the attention of your Commercial Field Chef.

To carry out Return to Work Interviews and Attendance Review meetings with staff following periods of absence, in accordance with the Management of Attendance Procedures.

To carry out interviews for kitchen staff in accordance with the City Council’s Recruitment and Selection Procedure.

To carry out regular briefing of staff on current organisational issues, new legislation, bulletin feedback and encourage two-way flow of information.
