Adult Social Care is part of the People Directorate within Coventry City Council.  We have a simple vision and strategy that defines what we are trying to achieve, our purpose and our approach which underpin the principles of Adult Social Care, and we continue to work in support of this.

In a simple sense all our work, at whatever level should continue to support the strategy of: ‘Providing support, in the least intrusive manner possible, based on the assets, resources and abilities that are available to people’.

Adult Social Care encompasses a wide range of vital services covering;

  • Commissioning Team – we commission and work with a number of providers, to ensure that people with care needs have access to a range of good quality support to enable them to live independent and fulfilling lives
  • Social Work Services - we work with individuals who have care and support needs, and with their carers be they older or younger adults
  • Occupational Therapy and Equipment Services - we aim to enhance people’s ability to live safely and independently in their home
  • Internally Provided Services – we provide direct support to people enabling those in most need to live independent and fulfilled lives
  • Business Systems and Continuous Improvement - we provide a range of services including Financial Assessments, provider payment processing and Business Systems administration. The Business Systems team provide support to Adult Social Care, Children’s Services and Education Services.

What is the job role?

Our PILS Team supports adults with learning disabilities/complex needs to maintain their tenancies. Our goal is to provide a high standard of care for everyone who has a service from the PILS team, promoting dignity, respect, and independence at all times. You will support adults with multiple learning disabilities to participate in everyday living tasks within their own tenancy and access activities out in the community.

We are recruiting two posts:

Post one: Night Support Assistant 28.5 hours per week permanent contract as a lone worker plus an additional 33% waking night allowance. This post will require you to do waking night shifts Week one Monday Tuesday Wednesday Week 2 Thursday Friday Saturday which becomes a rolling rota. Start times are 9.45pm and finishing at 7.15am please do not apply if you cannot commit to this established rota.

Post two 28 hours per week Support Assistant: there is a variety of shifts possibly 2-10 or 2.30-11 with a sleep-in followed by 7-3 there also could be shorter shifts, depending on the rota pattern. There is a 6-week rolling rota.  Please do not apply if you cannot commit to this established rota.

This post is exempted under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and as such appointment to this post will be conditional upon the receipt of a satisfactory response to a check of police records via Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).

 

Who are we looking for?

As a Support Assistant, you will become a valued member of the team, providing a person-centred approach to a high standard to the service users we provide a service too. Through a creative and caring approach, you will build good relationships with the service users, whilst being part of a team of Support Assistants to achieve the best possible outcomes for the service users

You will be committed to:

  • Providing a quality service by promoting the physical (including the administration of medication), emotional, social and intellectual well-being of each service user.
  • Ensuring that Health and Safety requirements are adhered to with due regard to service users, staff and all persons accessing the tenancy
  • Safeguarding vulnerable adults
  • Making sure the service provided meets the needs and outcomes of each service user.

You’ll need:

  • You will either already have a Diploma 2 or equivalent in Social Care. Or be willing to commit to achieving the latest qualification.
  • Experience with working with either adults with complex needs with little or no communication skills/ or all levels learning disabilities or worked in the care profession
  • To have a good knowledge of safeguarding, policies and procedures.
  • To work with management to ensure that all service users’ needs are being met to support their individual outcomes.
  • The ability to using own initiative and respond flexibly to the needs of service users promoting dignity, respect and choice at all times.
  • To have the ability to assess service user needs, record and maintain records both paper and electronic and monitor accordingly, to communicate and liaise with service users.
  • Knowledge to use different electronic programs and a willingness to learn new programs to support you within your role.
