Social Care Team Manager – Child Assessment Team

Grade 9 (£51,901 - £54,934)

The Child Assessment Team completes the first social work assessment for children, young people and their families following a referral into and triage by the Multi-Agency Safeguarding Hub [MASH24], which is the single point of contact for all safeguarding referrals in Wolverhampton.  The Child Assessment Team complete assessments under section 17 and section 47, present children & young people to Initial Child Protection Conferences and initiate Public Law Outline procedures where children need immediate protection.  The Child Assessment Team work closely with internal and external partners to provide rapid wrap around support to children, young people and their families during their first period of statutory assessment where needs, vulnerabilities and risk are increasing and where families are in crisis.  The Child Assessment Team determine the threshold of support for children and young people and complete the transfer to one of the Strengthening Families locality teams for continued support through the provision of Early Help, Child in Need or Child Protection support.

The post holder will:

  • Ensure the provision of a high quality and effective social work service to meet the needs of children and their families, safeguarding children in a timely manner within statutory guidelines.
  • Represent the service within multi-agency forums and to contribute to the development of policy and practice in Children’s Services across the city.
  • Ensure the social work service is fully integrated within the wider Children's Services in order to promote positive outcomes for children and their families.
  • Provide effective leadership within the service, taking responsibility, being accountable and motivating staff within the team.
  • Act as a champion within the service for restorative practice.

These posts are subject to an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.

As part of the interview process, candidates will be required to undertake:

  • A panel interview and 10 minute presentation
