We are looking for a person with commitment, determination and enthusiasm to undertake a number of duties within the Financial Services section. The successful applicant will have responsibility for providing support and advice across a range of financial services for both Cannock Chase Council and Stafford Borough Council including the preparation of budgets, monitoring, closure of accounts, government returns, fees and charges and the calculation of hourly rates. We are looking for a thorough and conscientious person with a financial background to work as part of the Corporate Accountancy team.

You will have knowledge of basic accounting principles and professional accounting standards and possess good analytical skills. You will be qualified to AAT Intermediate (Level 3) or have a similar finance related qualification or the ability to demonstrate similar work experience. In addition, qualification at or studying towards AAT Technician (Level 4) would also be advantageous.

You will be self motivated with the ability to work on your own initiative but also as part of a team. You will have good interpersonal skills and effective oral communication skills sufficient to obtain information and provide clear responses to other departments and external organisations. In addition, you will have strong written communication skills sufficient to compose internal reports and correspondence and have the confidence to supervise junior staff on an ad-hoc basis subject to work requirements.

You should be able to use Windows packages to download and manipulate large amounts of data, produce reports and provide analysis. You should also be capable of achieving stretching targets and have the ability to work to tight deadlines. Experience of public sector finance and practical knowledge of computerised financial ledger systems is desirable.
