The Local Authority and Right to Buy Division, in the friendly Social Housing Directorate of MHCLG, is at the heart of delivering two key Government priorities: driving up housing supply by supporting Local Authorities to build more and increasing home ownership through the flagship right to buy scheme, enabling more people to have the security and stability of owning a home of their own.
This role is to take on leadership of the Local Authority Housing Team. We focus on council housing supply, ensuring that council housing stock is well managed, that right to buy receipts are used correctly, and that councils and housing associations receive funds to make their buildings safe.
As well as an exciting opportunity to take forward the Division’s policy work on increasing the supply of social housing, this post offers an excellent opportunity to gain experience in high-profile programme delivery and essential policy stewardship. The post will involve oversight and management of the flagship £400m social sector cladding remediation fund, as well as vital ongoing local authority housing revenue account operations.
The successful candidate will join and lead an established and supportive team with a wide variety of skills and policy experience, they will be confident in developing wider networks across the Department, Whitehall departments and non-government partners. They will manage a team of 11 staff to support them in the delivery of their responsibilities. There is significant scope in the role to set out and refine plans and strategies for improvement and to act to deliver these.
