What is the job role?

Supported by the European Social Fund 2014-2020

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Employment and Skills Service and be part of our Adult Education provision through the Connect2 ESF-funded programme.  This initiative was set up to ensure Coventry residents receive high-quality and personalised support, enabling them to move closer to and into good quality employment.

This role involves working with individuals, ensuring that customers participating in Adult Education receive support to develop their skills to secure work.  You will support learners alongside their courses to secure good quality employment through tailormade action plans and reviews.

This role involves working with adults and vulnerable individuals who have varying kinds of disabilities including learning disabilities.

The role involves

  • Working efficiently with delivery staff and Managers within Adult Education to Identify people who would like support through Connect2 in order to reach their employment aspirations through personalised action planning and 1:1 support.
  • Maintaining and completing accurate records to meet ESF requirements, checking eligibility evidence and supporting management to ensure that ESF targets and a quality customer journey is achieved.

Working across the various Adult Education sites in the city, you will be working with individuals currently undertaking a learning qualification through the Adult Education Service.

You will be responsible for carrying out 1:1 support through a blended approached of centre visits and virtual appointments with each learner to identify opportunities into employment or a positive destination.

You will carry out focused assessments and create a clear plan of action which will enable the individual to move closer to and into education/training or good quality and sustainable employment.

Your role will involve accessing suitable resources, partners and support agencies, as individuals can face barriers in reaching their career aspirations or employment.

This post is exempted under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and as such appointment to this post will be conditional upon the receipt of a satisfactory response to a check of police records via Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).

Previous applicants need not re-apply.

Who are we looking for?

You will need to be excellent at developing positive working relationships, an effective communicator, able to work with a wide range of people from different backgrounds including BAME, disability, mental health and crucially have the  ability to listen, understand and go that extra mile in supporting each individual for a positive outcome.

Flexibility is key as the role is peripatetic and will require access to individuals through learning centres and also through virtual platforms, so experience co-ordinating and adapting service delivery is required in order to effectively manage a mixed diverse caseload in conjunction with an education timetable.

Confidence using IT and platforms to communicate with customers, colleagues and partners throughout the role is essential.  The role will require working autonomously so a high level of  discipline along with time management and effective organisational skill is necessary.

You must be able to manage data, accurately complete auditable documents for intranet and funding streams for the achievement of performance related targets.

Must be passionate about supporting individuals into work or education/training, be adaptable and hold excellent people skills.

If you are dynamic, creative, able to use your initiative and believe that you have the drive and skills to be able to make a real difference to the residents of Coventry, then we want to hear from you.

This is a 37 hour per week fixed term contract until March 2023. However, we hope to secure additional funding to extend the post beyond this date.

You will be employed by Coventry City Council as a Job Coach and will be working on the Connect2 ESF Programme which is part funded by the European Social Fund.  This post will require DBS clearance.
