Library Assistant

Salary: £19,312 per annum (pro rata)

17.5 Hours per week

HMP Oakwood is a category C Mens prison. The Library is staffed by a team of 4 Library assistants led by the Library Supervisor and is a well-used and valued resource within the Prison.

The Library is open Monday to Saturday, this 17.5 hour part-time post (grade 4, scp 5; £19,312 pro rata) usually operates on Monday and Tuesday mornings and afternoons and one Saturday morning a month.

The Library is a branch of Staffordshire County Council Prison Library Service. The onsite staff work closely with SCC PLS Library staff in the other Prison Libraries in the County, as well as with onsite Prison staff, Management and Partners. The role requires a positive and proactive person with great customer service skills and a love of reading. We are looking for a confident person with integrity and a strong work ethic.

We are currently working on a varied timetable due to covid and shift patterns can be subject to change if the Prison regime changes and there is a need, so applicants should consider this. The role does require some cover of colleagues at other times / days outside the set core-shifts of this post and so would suit someone with the commitment, availability and flexibility to accommodate this.
