Part time x 2 (22 hours per week)
Part time x 1 (21 hours per week)
Full time x 1 (37 hours per week)

Are you resilient, robust and resourceful?  Honest, reliable and compassionate? Flexible, fun and hardworking? If your answer is yes then we would like you to consider a career in children's residential services.

For us no 2 days are the same, for example tonight involves:

  • helping to cook the tea
  • helping with homework
  • playing football in the garden

But tomorrow may bring:

  • attendance at meetings
  • addressing challenging behaviour

You will be responsible for the direct care of children living in the home and offer high levels of engagement for and with children to be ambitious in achieving positive outcomes for them.  We provide residential care for looked after children at three childrens homes located within Walsall.  We adopt a child centered approach and actively promote childrens rights. We deliver our services in a safe personalised, small group care which promotes childrens welfare.

Our homes can accommodate children up to 18 years of age.  Due to the nature of this post, the DFE minimum standard states that an employee must be four years older than the oldest resident therefore applicants must be 22 years of age or older.

These posts are mainly evenings, weekends and includes sleep in shifts where you will be paid a 5% enhancement for unsocial hours and also a sleep in payment.  Salary is pro-rata to hours worked.

This post is covered by the Government’s Code of Practice on the English Language Fluency Duty for public sector workers.

Walsall Council takes seriously the responsibility to safeguard and promote the welfare of all the children, young people and adults entrusted to our care and it is our expectation that all staff will share this commitment.  Completion of an enhanced Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) check is a requirement for this role.
