Worcestershire Archive and Archaeology Service has an exciting opportunity for an experienced digital photographer to join our award-winning team, working in our purpose-built darkroom studio at The Hive, Worcester.
As the county Archive and Archaeology Service, we care for documents dating back to the 11th century. Our busy public service welcomes thousands of researchers each year, exploring our extensive collections. We answer many more online enquiries, including requests for images of our documents. We also operate a commercial digitisation service, working on direct contracts as well as part of grant-funded projects.
We produce archival quality digital surrogates of original documentary, photographic, and audio materials using specialist photographic equipment and imaging software while at the same time, ensuring the security and safety of original archival materials.
We are looking for someone with experience of relevant computer software and digital and photographic equipment. Primarily we work with specialist single-shot photographic equipment including two Mamiya 645 medium format cameras fitted with PhaseOne IQ180 and P40 digital capture backs and Schneider and Zeiss 55mm, 80mm, and 120mm lenses.
You will have excellent customer service skills, be used to negotiating and quoting for work, and have experience of securing external funding. Ideally you will have an interest in local history and heritage and an understanding of, and empathy with, the needs of archival materials. The successful candidate must have relevant skills or qualifications and be used to independent working within a wider team, including working to deadlines.
The post is an integral part of our Digital Strategy and works with the full range of staff and public associated with the Service, including internal customers and stakeholders. The Photographer will work closely with the Service’s Paper and Book Conservator.
We will provide support for training and professional development relevant to the business.
Please note that this role requires a level of physical fitness that enables you to safely lift and carry boxes of documents from our strongrooms, provided with the appropriate equipment

• 35-hour working week, with flexible working
• Career Average Pension
