6 hours per week.

The Neighbourhoods Division is responsible for Birmingham’s Neighbourhood Advice, Neighbourhood Development, Cultural Development, Sport & Leisure, Community and Wellbeing Centres and Events. We operate a combined model of directly and externally managed services and these are delivered through various forms such as partnerships, community infrastructure, contracts with external parties, commissioned delivery etc.

 

An exciting opportunity has arisen at Linden Road Instruction Pool for a level 2 qualified swimming teacher to join our team.

 

To assist in the delivery of fun and safe swimming lessons you will have the ability to teach all levels from adults childcare which range from preschool children aged 4+ in our Strokes for life swimming lessons and school programme.

 

Swimming instructors are required to work as part of a team and deliver a high quality provision, ensuring a positive experience for both parents and child that meet the expectations and standards of the company and its customers. Knowledge of health and safety and an understanding of child protection is vital. You will need to be approachable, with a friendly, patient nature needed to build peoples trust, motivate pupils and encourage with praise.

 

To be responsible to the Site Manager for the effective day to day delivery and presentation of the Schools or Strokes Swimming Instruction Scheme.  You will provide advice and support to the Site Manager on the development of the site Swimming Instruction programme and you will liaise with the Swimming Co-ordinator on course content and activity programmes specific to that site.

 

You will liaise with and assist teachers in charge of school classes when teaching on the schools instruction programme and maintain an effective relationship with parents when teaching swimming as part of the Strokes Instruction Scheme, including encouraging customer retention.

 

You will be responsible for the validation of appropriate badges and certificates relating to the Strokes Instruction Scheme and liaising with the Swimming Co-ordinator on their issue.

 

You will need to liaise with the Swimming Co-ordinator and site Manager in relation to accessing appropriate staff training/personal development and in the maintenance of qualifications and keep abreast of current development trends in Swimming and Swimming Teaching by attending the appropriate in service training courses / seminars.

 

You will need to hold a ASA/STA Teachers Certificate (Level 2), a recognised Lifesaving Qualification and have  a sound understanding of principles of Swimming instruction.

 

You must be able to communicate clearly and effectively and have the ability to maintain written records and respond to routine enquiries, both verbally and in writing.

 

You must be committed to training and attend specific training as and when required and attend updates through Swimming Development initiatives.
