The Public Health Function is an important contributor to this vision, responsible for developing the Council into a ‘Public Health Engine’, which actively promotes population good health and enables all Birmingham citizens to make healthier choices. This will be achieved through the continual championing of the health and wellbeing of all people across the city, but especially the most vulnerable. The delivery of an effective intelligence-led approach based on a set of agreed principles will require significant cultural and structural change – where the citizen is at the heart of what we do and each and every member of the Public Health workforce willingly and actively takes responsibility for their actions.

We have an exciting opportunity for someone to join our multi-disciplinary Public Health Division in a Public Health Service Lead role. This is a rare opportunity for a skilled individual to join Public Health within the largest Local Authority in the country and lead work that contributes to Birmingham being a great city that enables people to live healthy and active lives.

The Public Health Division is engaged in a dynamic and diverse range of innovative work at a local, regional, national and international level.

This full-time permanent position will be within the Population Health Management (PHM) Team. This team leads on providing and building capacity in data science that will support the delivery of PHM for the population of Birmingham and Solihull Integrated Care System (ICS).

The post holder must have knowledge in the use of statistical methods in applied public health research and evaluation, experience of analysing and interpreting data from a variety of sources and an understanding of data security and confidentiality.  The post holder will also be experienced in developing and delivering data systems improvements and be effective in communicating and engaging in a public health setting. The post holder will support the Senior Officer and Service Lead (PHM Team) to achieve the work programme of the PHM team. You will be educated to bachelor’s degree with an understanding of statistical or mathematical components.

We are looking for a competent analyst to join the largest Local Authority in Europe to help us improve health and reduce inequalities. This is an ideal opportunity for somebody who can:

  • Communicate clearly and coherently, both verbal and written, to understand decision making and planning needs that can be met using data
  • Support implementation research that requires a range of quantitative and qualitative data collection methods
  • Perform data analysis to assess the quality and determine the meaning of the data
  • Produce and/or contribute to the preparation of data driven reports, reviews, and presentations
  • Develop and effectively use materials to communicate insights from data analysis and plan engagement activities for a range of audiences, including the public
