Deputy Chief Executive
We’re looking for a new Deputy Chief Executive to join the small team here at BARN.
The Deputy Chief Executive is part-time (18 hours), and supports the Chief Executive in the running of BARN. Externally this may mean representing BARN, its members and the wider voluntary sector at strategic meetings at local, County and regional levels, or talking to small groups of people at community meetings. Funding, health, volunteering, community transport, strategic development, or local community needs are all areas of interest. You will also need to offer more targeted support for our members, such as one to one help to become constituted, offering funding guidance, or advice on policies and procedures. Community engagement to support small groups or recruit volunteers is an ongoing task for the whole team.
Internally bid writing and fundraising will be a significant part of your role, particularly around ongoing projects such as our BURT community minibus or Skills for Work, and maintaining positive relationships with our funders. We process DBSs, so managing this process will be part of your responsibilities, as will an overview of membership of BARN and preparing the Network Meetings where our members can come together. Depending on your skills and experience it may also include development and taking the lead on specific projects.
Although the Deputy Chief Executive has a key strategic and management role we’re a small team, so rolling up your sleeves and putting your hand to whatever is needed is also part of the job. As well as the key tasks above there will also be a fair share of standing in the middle of a field under a gazebo in the rain as part of a local community event, or talking to elderly BURT clients on the phone who just need a chat, or even a day helping on the minibus itself…
