The Public Health Function is an important contributor to this vision, responsible for developing the Council into a ‘Public Health Engine’, which actively promotes population good health and enables all Birmingham citizens to make healthier choices. This will be achieved through the continual championing of the health and wellbeing of all people across the city, but especially the most vulnerable. The delivery of an effective intelligence-led approach based on a set of agreed principles will require significant cultural and structural change – where the citizen is at the heart of what we do and each and every member of the Public Health workforce willingly and actively takes responsibility for their actions.
We have an exciting opportunity for someone to join our multi-disciplinary Public Health Division in a Public Health Service Lead role. This is a rare opportunity for a skilled individual to join Public Health within the largest Local Authority in the country and lead work that contributes to Birmingham being a great city that enables people to live healthy and active lives.
The Public Health Division is engaged in a dynamic and diverse range of innovative work at a local, regional, national and international level.
This full-time permanent position will be within the Population Health Management (PHM) Team. This team leads on providing and building capacity in data science that will support the delivery of PHM for the population of Birmingham and Solihull Integrated Care System (ICS).
The post holder must have advanced statistical and/or mathematical skills, experience in statistical programming and research and an understanding of data security and confidentiality. The post holder will also be experienced in generating relevant insights from analysing and interpreting of health and socio-economic data sets and be able to engage with stakeholders to effectively communicate these insights. The post holder will support the Service Lead for PHM to meet the work programme of the PHM team. You will be educated to Higher Degree with a strong statistical or mathematical component.
We are looking for a highly skilled statistician to join the largest Local Authority in Europe to help us improve health and reduce inequalities. This is an ideal opportunity for somebody who can:
- Support collaboration with commissioners, providers and stakeholders to identify issues that can be addressed using insights from data and evaluate relevant data sources and data-gathering techniques.
- Design and project manage research that require a range of quantitative and qualitative data collection.
- Programme (using R for example) and deplore statistical and/or mathematical skills including e.g., linear, logistic, cox regression, analysis of variance, repeated measures, survival analyses).
- Translate insights from data analysis and the findings of research for a range of audiences, including the public, and use good presentational skills to facilitate sector wide change and action
Contribute to maintaining relationships with the academic community and make use of opportunities for collaboration
