Are you our perfect (Marketing) fit?

At WME we advocate, build and champion people centred organisations for a resilient and diverse public sector workforce.

This is a pivotal role for the delivery of West Midlands Employers communications programme. It will be your job to help us communicate effectively with a wide range of audiences. As part of a small team, you’ll work closely with colleagues to provide essential communications support.

Here at WME, we deliver a wide range of campaigns – anything from recruitment to regional initiatives.

We are looking for a candidate who has a real passion for creating and writing content. In this role, you will have the opportunity to lead on the build of microsites to support our varied organisation wide campaigns. You will be expected to write content, build elements of the sites using WordPress and lead on delivering these builds, on time to support our clients.

We also create and distribute a popular quarterly newsletter, The Pulse, which you will own. You will plan the content, working closely with our design partner to come up with the creatives and work with colleagues to develop exciting content.

As an organisation, we do lots of great things #ambitious and we need you to bring our achievements to life.

As our marketing and communications officer, you will be the owner of our social media platforms – from planning our content to designing social media cards. We want you to raise our profile and get people following the amazing things that WME do.

Connecting with our client base is important to us – we hold virtual and face-to-face events throughout the year, and you will play a pivotal part in planning and supporting  these.

You will come up with a communication plan for our events, be the face of promoting these and will be ‘on the ground’ at the events, live Tweeting and bursting photos to create a Boomerang.

We are always looking at ways to improve and need someone who will bring new ideas to the table – the more creative the better!

Sound good?

The key skills we are looking for from you are:

  • Planning skills are a must - you will be setting deadlines for your colleagues and working towards them for projects and campaigns that you’ll be working on personally.
  • Be pro-active - you’ll need to ensure you are achieving deadlines and be ahead of the game and scoping what’s coming ahead.
  • Be creative – you’ll be creating and designing lots of content. We want to hear your ideas!

Previous experience or knowledge of local government would be an advantage, however, it’s not essential to the role – it’s more important that you are a self-starter who can act as the subject matter expert for marketing across the organisation.

We are looking for someone with a basic understanding of WordPress and Google Analytics from the get-go. It would be beneficial if you have experience of using InDesign and Photoshop or something similar.

This Marketing & Communications role is a key part of our Business and Corporate Team and will require you to work across the whole team and all our service strands.  So, ideally we are looking for someone with experience of working within a marketing role set in a small or medium sized organisation, as we value the wider business knowledge that you will have gained from this type of role.
