Salary G8: £30,451 - £34,728

As a valued Democratic Services Officer at Walsall, you would have the opportunity to work at the heart of the decision making process.  Arranging and attending meetings of Committees, Sub-Committees, Working Groups and Charities by producing agendas, reports and minutes would be a key focus.  However, the role also requires the successful candidate to:-

• Provide timely advice and guidance on the Councils Constitution and relevant legislation;
• Be central to the work of Scrutiny, undertaking research, analysing findings and drafting reports for scrutiny reviews;
• Lead on Charities, ensuring that Annual Returns are submitted to the Charity Commission; and
• Support the operation of School Admission Appeals process.

With previous experience of local authority Committee work, or a strong interest in governance or politics and a willingness to learn, you will:-

• Understand Committee procedures;
• Work well under pressure to meet tight schedules and deadlines;
• Be confident and tactful in dealing with elected members and senior officers;
• Think logically and plan;
• Embrace new technology and have a good knowledge of Microsoft Office 365

​As someone able to communicate well with councillors, the public and staff, you will use your own initiative, within a supportive team setting, to manage a varied workload.  Having knowledge and understanding of current issues affecting Local Government would be an advantage and the ability to communicate verbally with customers and provide advice and/or information in accurate spoken English is essential.
