About the Role

We are seeking a Chief Executive for Warwickshire and West Midlands Association of Local Councils (WALC) to take forward our new Company Limited by Guarantee.

Dependent upon the needs of the successful candidate, the board is keen for the role to be offered as 35 – 37 hours per week. Salary will be NJC SPC 32 (currently £35,745)

We are looking for a high calibre professional who will bring their leadership and management skills, be able to lead a small team and represent member councils both locally and nationally. With a track record of having a customer-focus, influencing, fundraising and delivering projects, you will be asked to help to build on the association’s recent successes.

The successful applicant will be able to provide strategic and operational support to the Board to help shape the future of the organisation now it is a company limited by guarantee and to contribute to the continued development of its excellent services.

You will find there is a really supportive and highly capable staff team in place.

You will share Warwickshire and West Midlands ALC’s commitment to promoting and supporting local councils, local democracy and public service.

The role is office based with working at home arrangements, with some travel to events and meetings.

Warwickshire and West Midlands ALC is well regarded by subscriber councils across Warwickshire, Coventry, Solihull and Birmingham, and our relationships with our partner organisations are strong.

 

Key Requirements

Communication skills

Ability to interpret and communication complex legislation and regulations

Ability to work constructively with others

Ability to work on own initiative

Ability to work flexibly, attending occasional meetings outside of office hours

Financial management skills

Conflict resolution skills

Experience of project management

Experience of managing people

Ability to use Microsoft365 & social media

Knowledge of local government roles, structures and functions

Degree level qualification (or relevant experience)

Access to independent transport and the ability to travel within the area of benefit
