Would you like to progress your career and development with Wolverhampton’s Educational Psychology Service?

Our mission is to work together to improve the lives of children, young people and families in Wolverhampton by promoting inclusion, helping to overcome barriers, and enabling positive participation for all.

We have a vacancy and are recruiting a Senior Educational Psychologists to join our creative and ambitious team.

We believe that Wolverhampton is a great place to work. These are some of the reasons why:

  • EPs are part of the Inclusion & Empowerment Service, which also includes Specialist Learning Support, Behaviour and Attendance, and the Virtual School for Children and Young People in Care.
  • The team has grown significantly over recent years, and includes EPs, trainee EPs, assistant psychologists and dedicated admin staff.
  • Our services are highly valued by schools. We have a partly traded service and buy-in from schools is high. The growth of this has allowed EPs to work in more interesting and creative ways.
  • We are leading the development of a city-wide emotional and mental health training offer for all staff working with children. Wolverhampton is also part of the trailblazer project to establish mental health support teams for schools (MHSTs). Educational Psychologists are included in the structure of the MHSTs and we are continuing to work alongside local and regional partners to further develop our unique contribution to this model.
  • We have a strong commitment to training and CPD. EPs access regular whole service CPD days, twilight sessions, and are able to go on courses and conferences that are linked to their own personal development targets. All EPs receive regular, high quality supervision, and we use coaching approaches within a peer supervision framework.
  • We have a strong tradition of working closely with colleagues in health and social care services. We are part of a Children’s Services directorate that was graded “good” by OFSTED. As a Council we are embedding Restorative Practice as a way of working with children, young people, families, and with each other. All staff receive Restorative Justice Council certified training as restorative practitioners.
  • We value research, development and innovation. All EPs contribute to service development and have time dedicated to focused project work. We have good links with universities in Birmingham and Wolverhampton.
  • We are learning from our experience of remote working during the COVID-19 pandemic and are retaining many of the benefits, including increased flexibility and opportunities for home working and extended us of technology.
  • We have a strong team identity and good social and peer support.
  • City of Wolverhampton Council is a high performing organisation. We have been awarded APSE Council of the Year for Service Delivery, and we were named Local Authority of the Year in the 2017 MJ Awards.
  • City of Wolverhampton Council is committed to equality and inclusion and the EP service contributes to

We are looking to appoint Senior Educational Psychologists who:

  • can demonstrate excellent supervision skills, and lead and motivate a team;
  • can lead projects and make significant contributions to service development and also contribute to wider strategic development work across the directorate;
  • can inspire and motive others about the impact of applied psychology.
