We have an exciting opportunity where you can be part of a team working in response to Covid-19.

Nationally, we are all asked to follow Public Health or Dept of Health and Social Care government guidance to stay safe and manage our response to Covid-19. This was in response to the initial return to workplaces, shops and local businesses and following further lockdowns it is even more important that we all continue to follow the guidance to protect ourselves and the people around us.

One of the many actions taken by the Council in response to this, has been to create a Welfare Call team to support local people that are self-isolating and undertake local contact tracing as part of the NHS Test & Trace service. The team also provides a door knocking service to follow up on cases as part of the NHS Test & Trace work.

What is the job role?

Welfare Call Team Leader - 12 month fixed term contract/secondment – 2 posts

Service hours: Weekdays 9am – 6pm, Weekends 9am – 5pm

Under the direction of the Welfare Call Team Co-ordinator, the Team Leader roles will be responsible for managing the Welfare Call Team. 

The team will provide telephone calls and text messages to support the welfare of those that are self-isolating and undertake local contact tracing as part of the NHS Test and Trace effort to support the city’s coronavirus pandemic response. The team also provides a door knocking service which is co-ordinated by the team leader roles. The team will maximise the chances for our residents, communities, and businesses to thrive while minimising the level of inconvenience and disruption to their lives.  

The Welfare Call Team will operate for 7 days per week – that is, including weekends and holidays.  Staff will work on a rota to cover these operating hours. 

This post is exempted under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and as such appointment to this post will be conditional upon the receipt of a satisfactory response to a check of police records via Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).

Who are we looking for?

If you are hardworking, organised, community focused and enjoy talking to people, this could be the ideal role for you.

You will need to be customer focussed and able to deal with members of the public calmly and politely at all times, particularly in challenging or sensitive situations.

You will need to able to use IT to navigate telephone and online IT systems to update information and records and undertake online training. 

You will have access to WIFI as homeworking is required for this role.

You will be committed and flexible, working to a rota including weekend shifts.

Immediate start available subject to relevant suitability and pre employment checks.

  • A good working knowledge of Covid-19 self isolation and test and trace guidelines.
  • Good interpersonal skills and confidence in dealing with Council colleagues and external contacts.
  • Strong organisational skills including managing priorities and meeting deadlines.
  • IT skills including experience with Microsoft packages including Excel, Teams and Outlook.
