Furthermore, if you have an aspiration to be the Monitoring Officer or the Deputy Monitoring Officer, one of these roles could be yours, dependent upon your experience to date. You’ll ensure that the Council, its officers and its members maintain the highest standards of conduct when fulfilling its lawful obligations, functions and delivering the Corporate Plan priorities, by exercising sound judgement in the public interest.

Reporting to the Chief Executive, you will personally advise and arrange delivery of legal advice to the Council on a wide range of legal and governance matters, particularly those areas of importance or complex in nature. The role also represents the Council at local authority proceedings such as planning enquiries, magistrates and county courts and other inquiries, including disciplinary hearings and tribunals. Supervising a small team, this interesting and varied role also encompasses being the Council’s Data Protection Officer, and has responsibility for the Asset Management function too
We are looking for qualified solicitor or barrister with at least 5 years relevant legal post-qualification experience, ideally in a local government environment.
You will have strong communication skills to be confident in advising committees and other public meetings, and be able to communicate effectively with both officers and elected members.
