Currently home working moving to blended working from a central Birmingham base.

Birmingham City Council is seeking to appoint a Principal Employment Officer to lead the operational delivery of its Employment Access Team which has a strong reputation for delivering results, especially in the built environment sector. 

This is an exciting opportunity for the right individual to drive forward the team's through a period of change to maximise the employment and skills opportunities from the Council's built environment development activity and expand its reach via the Council's wider supplier partnerships and social value commitments.

Your knowledge, skills and insight will enable a step change in the volume and delivery of local opportunities, and grow our partnerships that provide excellent support pathways for our residents to succeed.

This post has is a broad job description including:

  • Operational relationship management with employers
  • -Supervise, develop work programmes and direct the work of staff, students and work experience beneficiaries on an agreed basis.
  • Engagement of wider partner network including Adult Education providers, FE colleges and private sector training providers
  • Working with the Head of Service, identify suitable work activities and performance targets, in line with objectives of the team.
  • Account manage a wide range of employers, strategic partners, and internal and external stakeholders to capture jobs, design programmes and deliver commissioned activity to accelerate targeted individuals and groups into training, work experience and sustainable employment opportunities.
  • Represent the council in partnerships, on external bodies, committees and meetings as required.
  • Direct or convene project or initiative-based groups as required to agree and deliver appropriate actions
  • Prepare reports, briefings, presentations and publicity material on all aspects of projects and work programmes as required.
  • Provide briefings / reports / publicity material for a wide range of stakeholders, including senior officers and elected members

 

We are inviting applications from self-motivated, outcome driven individuals who can work with minimal supervision and manage a varied work load, with the experience to represent the Council in a responsible and professional way.

The role would be ideally suited to a candidate with a relevant background in employer account management and full understanding of the welfare to work sector. 

Applicants should demonstrate successful negotiation experience and management of productive delivery partnerships with a variety of stakeholders.

The post holder will need to have good team working skills, being able to work collaboratively and autonomously to meet deadline. 

 

Requests for flexible working / compressed hours will be considered where business needs can be met.

Fixed term. Full time (36.5 hrs per week), Flexible hours, Agile working, currently working from home (this will be reviewed periodically and working from offices part time will be the normal situation)
