Short Breaks and Inclusion Coordinator - Ref: CH05021

  • Children’s Commissioning Service
  • 37 hours per week
  • G9, £33,782 - £38,890 per annum

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated, well-organised person to join the Children’s Commissioning Service, to fill the currently vacant role of Short Breaks and Inclusion Coordinator.   We are a small, busy team, responsible for a range of commissioning activity, including the requirement to deliver a range of short breaks for children and young people with a disability.  We are looking for someone with experience of working with children and young people with disabilities and their families and knowledge of the services required to support them.

The main duties of the post are to coordinate efficient, accessible and cost effective universal and targeted Short Breaks provision in Walsall which aims to increase the quality of life for children and young people with disabilities and their families, by offering a break from caring for parents and carers.

The postholder will broker support from a range of care providers, for individual children with disabilities who need support in the home or in the community and co-ordinate quality assurance of both short break activity groups and family-based support as required.  You will be a key member of the Complex Needs Panel which agrees packages of support for children and young people with disabilities.  This will require you to develop an awareness of individual agencies and their specialism, quality and availability in determining who can best meet need.

An ability to work closely with the Early Help and Children and Young Peoples Social Work colleagues is essential as are good communication skills to network with a range of provider organisations. The postholder will have regular contact with parents and carers which will sometimes involve challenging discussions about the level of support for individual children or for groups of children with specific needs.

The successful candidate must be able to deal with members of the public, businesses and partner agencies in a professional manner. There are times when the Short Break Coordinator must make visits to children, provider sites and parent forum groups in and out of normal office hours.

The successful applicant will be required to undertake statutory training in child protection awareness and procedural duties.

For further information or informal discussion, please contact David DeMay, Children’s Commissioner on 07939 051561.
