Job Details

The Homelessness Prevention Team deliver the statutory homelessness advice and assistance service on behalf of Dudley MBC.

Working within the homelessness prevention team you will work with single homeless people and those who are rough sleeping or at the risk of rough sleeping.

You will provide a street outreach service and will respond to reports of sightings of rough sleeping.

You will work with 'sofa surfers' to help them to identify accommodation options.

You will work with rough sleepers to help them to take steps to secure and maintain accommodation.

You will work with single homeless people to help them to secure immediate accommodation options to alleviate their homelessness and onwards to secure longer term accommodation where necessary.

The role is varied and will be challenging. You will need to work hard to engage with a client group who are known to approach in crisis and then disengage.

You will need a good knowledge of homelessness and housing.

Ideally you will have worked with homeless people in past roles and will understand the challenges faced by tis group.

You will need to have a good understanding of welfare benefits.

You will need to be pro-active, creative and persistent.

You will need advocacy skills, to a good negotiator, and you will need to be a person who can manage competing priorities.

You will often have to react quickly to changing situations and will often have to find a Plan B at very short notice.
