Burton Market is located in the centre of town and includes both an indoor market hall and an outdoor market. The Hall itself was built in 1883 and although it was refurbished in 2014, it still holds the look of a traditional Victorian market. Both spaces are of a very large size and can be hired for a wide variety of occasions and events. Events held in the past have included concerts, gigs, car boot sales, fairs and the annual Christmas lights switch on, as well as the usual food and craft markets.
Join the Markets team as a Casual Markets Support Officer and assist the Markets Team Leader with the day to day running of the indoor and outdoor market. You will also assist with the supervision of the Council’s market function, including the indoor Market Hall, outdoor trading operations and events, and help increase footfall to the markets and promote the market offering.
You should have previous experience of local government or public sector working and have 3 GCSEs passes (A - C/4+) including English and Mathematics or equivalent. You should also have good communication skills; be highly numerate with the ability to carry out complex calculations quickly and with accuracy and have the ability to analyse and evaluate complex information in order to make informed decisions and suggest solutions that make effective use of time and resources. A good working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, particularly Word, Excel and Outlook is essential.
You should be flexible, with the ability to work out of office hours and at weekends, and live nearby for out of hours arrangements/emergencies or have access to travel arrangements.
This is a temporary position for up to 12 months.
