We are currently have an exciting opportunity to join the team as an Occupational/Corporate Health and Safety Officer. Total remuneration for the role is up to £34,577 per annum to include market supplements payments. We also offer a comprehensive package of employee benefits, including a generous Local Government Pension Scheme. For the right candidates, a suitable relocation package may also be negotiable. The Council is committed to providing our services as efficiently as possible and as such this role can be undertaken agilely. There may be a requirement to undertake site visits within the Borough which extends to no more than a 20 mile radius and these can be managed in the main by the post holder.

As the Council’s principal advisor on matters relating to Occupational Health and Safety, you will be required to:

• Develop and progress corporate initiatives and priorities and working with services and managers across the Council in relation to Occupational Health and Safety, ensuring a consistency of approach.
• Develop and implement an appropriate audit and monitoring methodology and work closely with relevant managers across the council to progress.
• Support Managers in the investigation of accidents/incidents, the development of risk assessments/DSE assessments and the health surveillance scheme.
• Develop health, safety and welfare policies and procedures in conjunction with managers, trade unions and other colleagues and to co-ordinate, organise and delivery Health and Safety related training.
• Ensure that there is consistency and Best Practice in all aspects of Health & Safety Management throughout the Council.

The successful candidate will have:
• A Health and Safety qualification at NVQ level 6 or equivalent.
• Experience of the design and implementation of appropriate performance indicators at various levels, reporting on them and creating effective remedial action plans as appropriate.
• Ability to effectively manage a variety of attitudes to compliance with established standards.
• Experience of undertaking health and safety related audits with a good knowledge of current Health and Safety Legislation.
• Excellent communication skills, preparation of reports, a good standard of IT skills and the ability to use own initiative and manage own workload and priorities is essential.
• Recent and relevant experience of providing general advice on a variety of health and safety issues and designing and delivering effective health and safety training at all levels.
