Museums Worcestershire is the joint museums service of Worcester City and Worcestershire County Councils. We are looking for casual staff to support our busy operational team at the Art Gallery & Museum in Worcester with the day-to-day running of the building. If you are an enthusiastic and reliable individual who is passionate about museums and heritage, and willing to operate in a busy customer-focused environment, we’d love to hear from you.
We are seeking to recruit 3 Casual Visitor Services Assistants (Buildings), to be called upon to cover for staff holidays and sickness, as well as to assist with events and evening functions. To act as duty key-holder for the Art Gallery & Museum and City Council offices and be responsible for the safety and security of the premises; opening and closing the building; acting as lead staff member in the absence of senior officers in the event of an emergency, at weekends and as required during the day and at evening events.
With excellent communication skills, you will assist in the day-to-day running of facilities, overseeing contractors, providing Front of House cover when necessary and patrolling the galleries to ensure the safety and security of the public and collections.
You will have a good understanding of health and safety procedures; be able to work well in a team; and have a flexible approach to daily demands, whilst being aware of security and emergency procedures relating to the premises at all times.
Flexibility to work at short notice, on weekdays, at weekends and evening events
Strong background in delivering excellent customer service
Be able to work well as part of a team
An enthusiastic approach and a desire to learn and share knowledge
A practical and flexible attitude
Excellent verbal and communication skills
One year’s experience in a similar role
Must be computer literate
Lifting of heavy boxes and awkward items will be required
Able to work on own initiative if/when required
Must be able to work weekends and evenings as required
A flexible approach to the day-to-day demands
Experience of working in a museum or heritage environment
