Community Builder

2 x Fixed Term Contracts to 31/03/2023

£22,183 - £24,491 per annum

Do you enjoy working with people?  Do you want to help build vibrant communities?  Do you want to help find local solutions and empower communities to make a difference for themselves?

Wychavon District Council are working with the local volunteer centres to recruit three full-time community builders to work in and around the areas of Pershore, Evesham and Droitwich and the surrounding villages.

Each post will be employed by a separate organisation and will be based one in Evesham Volunteer Centre and one at Wychavon District Council’s offices in Pershore.

The initial focus of the Community Builder role is to research and establish a deep understanding of the area, working with local residents and existing organisations to uncover the key community assets and skills of local residents.

Working with residents and partners you will assess how to build a more cohesive community that will ultimately lead to a less isolated, healthier, and more connected community.  Within the role you will be aiming to find local opportunities and support residents to be active participants in their local area.

Successful applicants will be self-starters, flexible in working hours, and a real people-person who is keen to meet new people and build new networks.  The candidates will have a good understanding of the importance of diversity, working with harder to reach groups and valuing the participation and contribution of everyone in our communities.

You will need to be confident communicating at all levels, with individuals and small groups. Authentic, honest and committed individuals, passionate about the values of local communities.  

Whilst the roles are based within the Communities Team at Wychavon District Council and the volunteer centres, you will also be spending lots of time in the community and with other statutory, voluntary and local organisations. This is an exciting new collaborative role with potential to make a significant long-lasting impact in neighbourhoods and establishing new ways of working with communities.

Key requirements for these roles are:

* To understand the importance of discretion and sensitivity when working with communities

* Flexibility to work within different environments and the ability to adapt to changing priorities

* Ability to prioritize, evaluate and self-reflect

*Facilitation skills and working with volunteers and groups

* An understanding of budgeting, fundraising and project delivery

* Good written skills

* Experience of working with marginalised and hard to reach groups

* An understanding of local government and structures

* Knowledge of digital media

* Awareness of issues facing communities in a rural district

We are seeking candidates who can demonstrate:

* Previous experience of working with communities and supporting community projects

* Experience of working with a diverse range of organisations and community groups

* Experience of working with people from diverse backgrounds or knowledge of equality and inclusion.

* Supporting community groups and local projects

Although these are full time roles we would welcome applications from those wanting to work part time.
