 37 Hours per week –Permanent

We are looking to recruit a full time, permanent EDS Shift Leader. This dynamic and rewarding role consists of managing and coordinating a county-wide service across all social care disciplines.

The team is operational 131 hours per week covering the non-operational office hours. The shifts include evenings, nights, weekends and bank holidays. There is also opportunities to do occasional day work such as training and meetings etc.

The Shift Lead role carries the responsibility of effective decision making around the completion of statutory duties on an emergency basis. The focus of the decision making is principally around risk assessment and the allocation of resources to ensure that vulnerable children and adults are adequately safeguarded within the community. A working knowledge of the legislative frameworks around children, adults and mental health are essential elements of this decision making process.

We are a generic service who works closely with multi agency colleagues in the health care and police sector. As a Shift Lead there will also be an expectation that, where necessary, assessments will be led and completed by you alongside supporting colleagues who are undertaking similar duties.

A shift leader will have a robust knowledge of social work in practice and must have at least three years post-qualifying experience and registered with Social Work England. This is a leadership role, where holding the responsibility of the shift and the complex work undertaken by the Emergency Duty Service is the priority. Working as an active and informed team member is crucial to the functioning of the team. The Emergency Duty Service is proud of the support that is offered to each and every member of the team including the standby staff who bring specialist expertise to each shift.

There are many different elements to this role of Shift Lead. In terms of provision of the Mental Health Act Assessments, the applicant would ideally be a qualified Approved Mental Health Professional (AMHP) or be willing to undertake AMHP training. Each AMHP on the Emergency Duty Service contributes to the AMHP rota and this is an integral part of the role.

Adult referrals may require working or visiting a CQC registered care home. Anyone working in a CQC-registered care home in England for residents requiring nursing or personal care must have a complete course of an authorised COVID vaccine unless they have a medical exemption. Candidates will be required to show evidence of their vaccination status or medical exemption at interview.

The Emergency Duty Service is part of the Staffordshire Children’s Advice and Support and carries the responsibility of safeguarding vulnerable children across the county. This may include the completion of assessments, visits and Section 47 investigations along with the recording and managerial oversight of case notes and assessment documentation.

The county council provides staff with relevant post qualifying training in order to maintain registration requirements, it is committed to providing staff with supervision and appraisal.

You would have access to Manager support as required.

The post is subject to advanced vetting procedures.

This role will be

Grade 10, plus 20% shift allowance.
