Deputy Catering Manager position available

Start date – January 2022

(27.5 hours per week, 39 weeks per year – term time)

Start/Finish times – Monday to Friday 9:00am – 2:30pm

Pheasey Park Farm Primary School & Early Years Centre is a 3-form entry school and is part of the Elston Hall Learning Trust of schools. We cater for around 380 pupils and staff daily in addition to a successful morning break service.

Our catering service is managed in-house, with the support of our catering consultancy team CMC. This enables flexibility with our menus, local food sourcing and the ability to offer a quality, nutritional meal that pupils will enjoy.

We are currently seeking to appoint a Deputy Catering Manager for our busy, thriving school. We are looking for an enthusiastic, experienced individual to join our established team and someone who will support the development of our catering operation, working with our Catering Manager.

As the Deputy Cook, you will assist the Catering Manager in the development and implementation of a range of creative ideas for the menus and services. To be successful for this position you must be able to demonstrate knowledge of practical cooking on a large scale with previous experience in a similar role. This role is hands on and the emphasis will be on producing quality meals, whilst supporting the Catering Manager on a day-to-day basis and deputising in their absence.

We are looking for somebody that has a desire to make a difference to our children, who understands how to foster healthy eating habits and can make lunchtime an enjoyable experience.

Main Skills and requirements:

  • Effective communication skills with an emphasis on engaging with children is essential, as is the ability to support the leadership, along with supporting and working as part of a team.
  • It is expected that you will have an NVQ Level 2 in Food Preparation or 706/1 and or 706/2 City and Guilds.
  • Level 2 Food Safety certificate.
  • Allergen legislation awareness is essential, along with knowledge of the Government Food Standards for Education.
  • Knowledge of HACCP, Food Safety and Health and Safety in a kitchen is essential.
  • You will also be required to operate a computer therefore computer knowledge is also desirable;

As part of the interview process, you will be expected to complete a practical assessment on site, along with a short, written task. It is expected the interview process will take an hour.

This position will be available from 1st January 2022 subject to all necessary checks.
