Electoral Services Manager

Grade 12  (SCP 40-43) £43,857 - £46,845

Permanent/Full time – 37 hours weekly

Location: Council House, Dudley Town Centre/Working from home

Dudley currently has 237177 registered electors across 24 wards with a total of 191 polling districts. 

As the Electoral Services Manager, you will be responsible for organising and ensuring the effective and efficient delivery of electoral events in the Borough including local, regional and national elections, referenda and polls in accordance with statutory legislation.

Reporting to the Lead for Law and Governance, you will provide expert advice and support to the Returning Officer as required and will lead on and manage the legal compilation, publication and maintenance of the Register of Electors.  You will also act as Deputy Returning Officer, Deputy Local Returning Officer and Deputy Acting Returning Officer as required.

You will be responsible for managing the Electoral Services team who deal with customer enquiries on registering and methods of voting and will oversee the appointment of a large number of casual elections staff who support the Electoral process throughout the year.

You will be politically aware, have a sound knowledge of electoral legislation with the ability to interpret and apply it.  Holding the Association of Electoral Administrators (AEA) Certificate of Electoral Administration is a requirement for this role.

We are looking for someone who is enthusiastic and has the ability to lead and motivate the team to work to the best of their abilities. A customer orientated approach is essential along with excellent communication skills to engage with people at all levels of the Council.

Due to the nature of the role, during Election periods you will need to have the ability to work well under pressure and balance conflicting priorities. A flexible working attitude and the ability to work outside of normal core office hours will be essential along with excellent ICT skills.
