PRINCIPAL

Kickstart Pupil Referral Unit

Wellington, Telford

A future member of the Learning Community Trust

Required from January 2022 or as soon as possible

Leadership Point 13 – 17 : £56,721 – £62,570

We are seeking to appoint an inspirational and dynamic Principal to lead Kickstart Academy from January 2021. There is an opportunity to negotiate the starting date depending on the successful candidates current position.

The Learning Community Trust are working alongside the existing sponsor to appoint an outstanding and ambitious leader who can build on the strong foundations within the school. Kickstart academy is a well-established Pupil Referral Unit and is currently a member of the Telford College MAT. In early 2020, the Learning Community Trust committed to support the academy, in agreement with the DfE, and has created a strong working relationship between Telford College and the Trust. This innovative work has now progressed into advanced discussions with the Department for Education to transfer Kickstart into the Learning Community Trust in the very near future. Therefore, LCT is leading the process of this appointment demonstrating our commitment to the future of Kickstart.

The academy has so many strengths, an embedded vision and ethos, fantastic young people, a fabulous and supportive staff body and provides a highly inclusive environment for young people with a wide range of needs.

The Learning Community Trust, is a Multi-Academy Trust based in Telford and Shropshire which currently has eight schools. The Trust was established in 2017 and is led by the CEO, Dr. Gill Eatough, who has over 20 years of experience in Headship. The Trust is committed to school improvement and collaboration to ensure we provide the best possible education for our young people. The successful candidate will have the benefit of significant support from the Trust.

Kickstart Academy is a Key Stage 4 Secondary School Pupil Referral Unit currently based in the heart of Wellington in the thriving borough of Telford and Wrekin. It is a school that has seen rapid and exciting changes in all key areas over recent times. These embedded developments have led to a current LCT internal judgement of GOOD.

It has moved location from the college site to temporary accommodation whilst we await approval of a capital building project that will develop a more bespoke environment for both academic and therapeutic educational approaches. Kickstart provides outstanding learning programmes for up to 48 pupils who are referred from within the Telford and Wrekin area.

We are looking for a candidate who:

  • Is charismatic and has high levels of energy, enthusiasm and resilience
  • Has excellent leadership experience at senior level within a PRU, SEND, Special School context or a strong pastoral role within a mainstream provision.
  • Has a proven track record of high expectations and inclusion
  • Understands the specific needs of students and the importance of a broad, rich and appropriate curriculum
  • Has a clear focus on the quality of education as well as developing the social and emotional health and well-being of students
  • Is committed to working within the Trust and with all our school leaders
  • Sets the highest standards of behaviour but is also extremely personable and approachable.
  • Can respond to, embrace and lead change.

If this post sounds like you then we would be delighted to meet you and would welcome your application.
