Navigator/First Response

Fixed term 18 month contract to cover maternity leave- to start as soon as possible

Salary: £27,539 

Hours: 37.5 must be flexible

Holidays: 26 days plus 8 days statutory holidays per annum to be calculated pro rata to hours worked

Based at: Based in Worcestershire and Herefordshire (post holder must be able to travel throughout Worcestershire and Herefordshire)

Responsible to: Advocacy Services Manager

Job purpose: 

  • To act as the first point of contact in the “Gateway”, providing holistic and non-judgemental advice, information and support for survivors of sexual violence, their supporters and professionals.
  • To ensure that diversity and equality is at the centre of the service and the service is responsive to, and meets the needs of all survivors.Manage referrals into the service
  • Make initial contact with new clients within 48 hours if possible, to answer any initial questions or concerns and to arrange a telephone-based needs assessments prior to the allocation of an ISVA/Branch worker/Counsellor
  • Conduct a telephone-based needs assessment to manage client expectations, navigate to correct service(s), signpost, offer emotional support, and ensure we gather the appropriate information for the relevant worker to begin working with client.
  • Refer survivor on to relevant counselling service if desired by the survivor.
  • Manage the waiting list for the ISVA/Branch/Counselling service when applicable – such as offering emotional or practical support over the phone to clients who are on the waiting list if there is one.
  • Prepare and post/email tailored information packs to clients on the waiting list for the ISVA/Branch/Counselling service.
  • Assist the ISVA’s/Branch workers with the completion of referrals out to other services such as counselling, housing schemes and to other professionals.
  • Manage queries from other professionals and service users about WMRSASC services.
  • Any other administrative or office-based support duties that enable the service teams to carry out their roles as appropriate.
  • Ensure before and after questionnaires are sent to clients. appropriately. Gather, collate, and present statistical monitoring reports as required.
  • Collate monthly written staff reports for the service teams to present at management meetings.
  • Provide information about the impacts of sexual violence and signposting to specialist support services.
  • Contribute towards service development.
  • Participate in individual case management, clinical supervision, appraisal sessions and team meetings.

The Navigator is expected to work within the ethos of WMRSASC and have high standards of practice. The need to present a professional image as well as maintaining constructive relationships with the police and other agencies is paramount.
