Birmingham Trading Standards is part of the Regulation and Enforcement Division, Birmingham City Council.  The service investigates consumer fraud and detriment and provides support and help to legitimate business in the Birmingham area.

The service responds to requests for assistance from citizens who may have been duped by rogue traders or in respect of businesses that are selling mis-described, unsafe or illicit products or failing to comply with their general legal obligations.

The service conducts investigations that can lead to criminal prosecutions or sanctions against the offenders.

 

To conduct financial or criminal investigations in to rogue traders / poor business practice /offenders operating in the Birmingham area contravening trading standards legislation.

Under the general direction of the appropriate operational manager, conduct or support financial and criminal investigations, enquiries, surveys and trade audits as are allocated, including the enforcement of delegated legislation and other related duties as required.

As an AFI to plan, conduct, complete and report on financial investigations into offenders being investigated by the Council, Trading Standards and other Local Authorities.

Accredited financial investigator /

Maintain competency and accreditation in respect of financial investigation.

Good understanding of TS functions and legislation.

Proven ability and experience of conducting investigations Proven ability, experience and extensive knowledge of conducting financial investigations as an accredited financial investigator including restraint, confiscation and asset identification. Knowledge of Trading Standards legislation including interpretation of National and/or European Technical standards.

Preparing high level, good quality, accurate reports and giving evidence in Court.

Able to carry out inspections and investigations as appropriate to the post.

High standard of written and verbal communication skills. Ability to work under pressure, and to meet targets and deadlines, organise and prioritise Workload.

 

We are looking for an Accredited Financial Investigator to work in Birmingham Trading Standards. Primarily, based in Birmingham, you will be an integral part of the service looking at confiscating the “ill gotten” financial gains of individuals prosecuted by the service.

All applicants will be required to have previous experience of undertaking complex and specialised financial investigations. You will be required to participate in criminal investigations, progress investigations, attend court as necessary, work to tight deadlines and work outside of normal working hours as required.

The successful applicant must be flexible, able to work under pressure and work under their own initiative, as well as experience of investigating or coordinating complex matters.
