Job Start Date: 1 January 2022

We are looking for a committed teacher who will embrace our vision of striving for the very best for all our children. We serve the culturally diverse and supportive community of Handsworth in Birmingham. You can expect a great teaching atmosphere. Our children are happy, enthusiastic and motivated to learn. They are very well behaved and engaged with our excellent curriculum content.

Our teaching staff and leaders are committed to learning from the very best and we are a research focused school. Our motto, Scientia Mentem Luminat (yes, we teach Latin) translates to ‘Knowledge Lights up the Mind.’ We are outward facing and have worked with a number of partners on both a local and national level. This includes Birmingham Education Partnership (BEP), Reach Academy Trust, Aston Villa Football Club, Warwickshire Cricket Club, Birmingham Music Services (all our year 4 children have instrumental instruction), Primary Knowledge Trust - just to name a few – as well as being part of a vibrant consortium of local schools. The school is very well resourced, with stable staffing and a healthy budget. Workload management has been central to our school improvement planning even before it was the next big thing for Ofsted. We therefore have things like centralised planning and whole class feedback, meaning you have the time to focus on your well-being, the subject knowledge you need to know and on the delivery of the lesson content.

We are interested in hearing from both existing teachers and early career teachers.

The type of person we are looking for will:

- have a passion for teaching and the teaching profession as a whole

- be a reflective practitioner who is open to new initiatives and is constantly honing their craft

- value inclusion and is ambitious for all our pupils

- relish the challenge of working in an innovative teaching setting

- be empathetic and commit to working in a supportive culture (we have a skilled, hardworking and dedicated staff team willing to offer support and expertise to develop your own practice, as well as being excited to learn from you)

- be able to establish a calm and effective teaching & learning environment

- build positive relationships with staff, pupils and parents

- engage with our network of schools and take responsibility for their own continued professional development

- be prepared to take an active part in the wider life of the school

At interview candidates will be asked for photo identification and proof of qualifications.

Closing Date: 1 December 2021, 4pm

For information on visits to the school and/or an application pack, please telephone or email the school.

Further information about our school can also be found on our website.

The Council is a fantastic place to work. You will find an organisation that is both challenging and supportive; with a leadership impatiently adventurous in its pursuit of excellence.

There is a clear vision which is ensuring that the Council is working for communities today and building for tomorrow, we focus our resources on five key priorities:

  • A Prosperous Birmingham: through a focus on inclusive economic growth, tackling unemployment, attracting inward investment, and maximising the benefits of the Commonwealth Games.
  • An Inclusive Birmingham: through a focus on tackling poverty and inequality, empowering citizens, promoting diversity and civic pride, and supporting and enabling all children and young people to thrive.
  • A Safe Birmingham: through a focus on making the city safer, safeguarding vulnerable citizens, increasing affordable housing, and tackling homelessness.
  • A Healthy Birmingham: through a focus on tackling health inequalities, encouraging physical activity and healthy living, supporting mental health, and improving outcomes for adults with disabilities and older people.
  • A Green Birmingham: through a focus on street cleanliness, improving air quality, continuing the route to net zero, and becoming a city of nature.

We see the Council’s role as providing strategic leadership – that’s being able to visualise a new future for the city and equipping others to share our vision. We want to ensure the provision of services for all, so we can support those least able to support themselves by working with partners and putting citizens and neighbourhoods at the heart of our decision-making.

We are always looking for people who put the customer at the centre of their approach, with a commitment to excellence to help us achieve our vision.  We will support you to develop and thrive in your role, building a pathway for long-term success, with lots of development opportunities, such as apprenticeships.

In return, we offer you excellent terms and conditions, generous annual leave, a great pension scheme, well-being support, annual travel passes and discounts at a number of city centre establishments.
