The Role

We believe that equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI) is integral to everything we do. As a key part of our new workforce strategy, we have started to implement a new staff led devolved EDI approach and we now have an exciting opportunity for an experienced EDI professional to embed this work and to join our high performing team.

Reporting to the Head of HR, you will be the subject matter expert and lead on the implementation and embedding of our equality, diversity and inclusion strategy with the objective of devolving ownership and accountability through our new EDI governance structure and approach. The successful candidate will be excited by working with others and delivering positive changes that have a meaningful and sustainable impact.

As a trusted source of EDI expertise, you will support, train and develop our Equality Champions and ensure the sustainability of this devolved model once this fixed term contract ends. You will also provide corporate oversight of the Public Sector Equality Duty compliance and embed the transfer of EDI activities to the broader workforce.

You will work proactively with staff at a Directorate level to drive EDI improvements and change across the Directorate to respond positively and promptly to the diverse needs of our staff, the services they deliver and the communities they serve.

We are looking for someone who is passionate about EDI and who will celebrate diversity and encourage equality and inclusivity amongst all of our workforce whilst also embedding inclusion in all of our processes and policies. You will be visible across the Council and seen as the go to person for EDI insight and advice.

In this key role, you will be responsible for the development and implementation of policies and processes including our Equality Impact Assessments (EIAs), public sector equality duty compliance and in particular the three aims within the Equality Act 2010. We’ll look to you to challenge existing practices and to design and implement new and improved ways of working.

With a postgraduate qualification in EDI, HR or another related discipline, you will have substantial experience of developing and implementing new EDI approaches and initiatives, preferably within a public sector environment. This should be backed by expert knowledge of EDI practices and excellent project management skills. Creative, with a forward thinking approach, you’ll also have excellent communication skills and the ability to persuade and influence at all levels.

For an informal discussion to find out more about the role please call Sabrina Jackson on 01905 844785 or email sjackson@worcestershire.gov.uk
