20.0 Hours per Week

We are looking to appoint an efficient, well organised and proactive Senior School Caretaker to work across our two schools in the federation. You will provide consistently effective caretaking support, ensuring that the security and general appearance of the buildings and grounds are maintained to the required standards and that systems operate efficiently.

You will be a nominated key holder responsible for the opening of the buildings and grounds on a daily basis.

The successful candidate will:
•Ensure all Health & Safety requirements are met including ensuring site safety ie clearing paths, heating working
•Ensure that appropriate temperatures are maintained and that a hot water supply is available
•Carry out frost protection procedures
•Report on any defects or works needed to SBM
•Ensure the site is clean and tidy
•Attend training as directed by the Executive Headteacher
•Ensure site security on a daily basis
•Carry out general maintenance, repairs, decoration and cleaning (when required)
•Liaise with and monitor contractors
•Ensure copies of all statutory compliance reports, log books, certificates and documentation are up-to-date and systems are inspected regularly.
•Order and store cleaning materials
•Monitor and keep up to date the COSHH register
•Ensure the large school grounds are well maintained
•Be responsible for implementing the school rolling maintenance programme, schedule work, plan, carry out and oversee decorating, repairs and maintenance
•Provide premises and Health & Safety reports to SBM
•General porterage duties and moving of furniture
•Contribute to the schools statutory duty to safeguard and promote the welfare of children

Key Requirements

This is a key role that would suit someone with a meticulous eye for detail, a focused approach to Health & Safety, excellent DIY and plumbing skills and the ability to undertake routine maintenance and decoration. You must be able to work on your own initiative and be proactive in dealing with day to day tasks. You will need to have the ability to prioritise work, meet deadlines, maintain records and systems and liaise effectively with all contractors.
Flexibility is key to this role, this will include hours worked.
You will be an excellent ambassador and communicator for the school with all stakeholders, contractors and visitors; highly efficient, energetic and able to work on your own initiative in a school environment; have excellent communication skills; be flexible and adaptable; take pride in the school’s site; be professional, approachable and proactive; enjoy being part of a team; be able to undertake maintenance roles including basic DIY, painting, gardening and plumbing; be able to maintain the school grounds to ensure they are attractive and a safe place to learn. If you have previous experience of working in a school environment that would be welcomed but is not essential.
