About the role

Based at Staffordshire Moorlands Children’s Centre in Biddulph, with the occasional need to support other Centres, the postholder will be responsible for ensuring the premises is in a safe, secure, and tidy condition. 

This involves undertaking statutory weekly and monthly safety and monitoring checks completing records as required.  Checking heating and lighting systems are operational and setting as required.  Building security – unlocking and locking premises at agreed times. Holding keys for emergencies, needing to attend site out of hours in emergencies. 

The postholder will be responsible for replacing consumables on site, and maintaining adequate stock levels of goods, consumables, and equipment necessary for the operation of the Centre, along with keeping adequate stock records.  They must ensure the premises are in a safe, tidy and satisfactory condition at all times, making or arranging repairs where needed.  Repairs include plumbing, joinery, decoration, and gardening, dependant on the competence of the individual. 

The role works with the premises manager, liaising with external contractors, to ensure compliance with health and safety policies to ensure acceptable work standards, including contractor risk assessments.  Checking cleaning standards are maintained, reporting issues to the premise manager. 

The postholder will take an active role in the yearly health and safety inspection of the Centre, ensuring all paperwork is correct and up to date.

What you’ll bring

The successful candidate will have skills to carry out repairs, preferably holding craft related qualifications, ability to demonstrate knowledge of health and safety, particularly in an environment with young persons present, in a community setting. You will be able to work on your own, or as a member of a team, and show good record keeping skills.
