The Health & Safety team provides advice, support and guidance to managers and employees covering all relevant health and safety topics and workplace wellbeing issues.

 

About the Role

Warwickshire County Council are looking for a suitably qualified and experienced health and safety professional who will work as part of a busy health & safety team in an exciting and fast pace authority. You will offer expertise and advice on health & safety standards and strategies and provide assurance about risk management and health and safety legislation.

The post is based in Warwick but travel around the County is expected.

You will be involved in leading and delivering a wide range of health, safety & workplace wellbeing functions including:

  • Advise and lead a small team of Health & Safety Advisors with projects, tasks, initiatives on all aspects of health and safety
  • Oversee and support the delivery of the organisation’s health and safety framework
  • Supporting managers on risk management, health and safety legislation, policy, and standards
  • Facilitate and support service’ investigation of incidents, accidents, and high potential near misses.
  • Collate corrective actions, identify trends/ insight, and share learning across business units and highlighting areas for potential improvement.
  • Provide coaching/mentoring for managers and other technical experts in matters relating to HSW technical support as required.
  • leading on and delivering health & safety audits and workplace inspections
  • preparing and delivering health, safety & wellbeing training
  • creation, monitoring and review of corporate policies, standards, and guidance

If you want to join us for this challenging and rewarding role, you’ll need to:

  • be qualified to at least NEBOSH National General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety
  • be a member of the Institution of Occupational Safety & Health (IOSH)
  • have experience of development, implementation, and maintenance of the Safety Management Systems, including internal auditing and ‘Behavioural Safety’ systems.
  • Have an understanding of ‘Occupational Health’ and its implementation within the workplace.
  • be someone who can translate legal requirements into practical solutions, and who can mentor managers, helping them understand how statutory changes affect them
  • have extensive experience of supporting health and safety, alongside a good understanding of health and safety legislation, health and safety theory and best practice, preferably within a large, diverse, and complex organisation.

For this role, you’ll need to be confident, a good communicator with a wide and varied audience, have a flexible approach to work, be able to meet deadlines, multitask and have excellent IT skills to be able to produce reports, interpret data and deliver advice to suit the audience. You will also need to be able to work under your own initiative and be highly organised.

The Offer (full time equivalent)

  • Up to £36,922, depending on experience
  • Flexible working hours
  • Minimum of 23 days annual leave plus bank holidays
