Lichfield District is ideally situated in the heart of the Midlands within easy reach of Birmingham.  The District includes a wealth of natural and historic assets, including an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, extensive Green Belt, 22 Conservation Areas and of course the historic Cathedral City centre of Lichfield.   This presents a broad range of development opportunities, challenges and pressures for the District, which will offer the post holder a varied and interesting caseload to lead on.  The post holder will also form an integral part of the Development Management managers’ team, supporting the Planning Development Manager and wider service, involved in harnessing the future direction for the team.

We are looking for an enthusiastic individual with a passion for planning and a positive can-do attitude to join our friendly Development Management team at Lichfield District Council. You will lead on major projects having your own caseload and also supervise and mentor a Senior Planning Officer (Major Projects), who will work with you to deliver key projects for the district.

The post holder will be required to act for the Council in defending planning appeals, including public inquiries, hearings, and examinations in public. You would need to be a qualified planner (MRTPI) with significant experience of planning, including within local government. You should demonstrate good organisational, communication and negotiation skills and have a positive approach to planning, with a commitment to the Council's values to improve & innovate, put customers first and have respect for everyone.
