Job Details

A great opportunity has arisen to join our dynamic and friendly Development Management team at Lichfield at the beginning of your planning career.

We are ideally situated in the heart of the Midlands, based in the historic centre of Lichfield. We are within easy reach of Birmingham and the District includes a wealth of heritage assets and beautiful countryside, including an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and Green Belt. This presents a broad range of development opportunities, challenges and pressures for the District and makes Lichfield a great place to start your career, as you will have the opportunity to develop experience in a wide range of planning areas. You could be handling planning applications in rural, urban and heritage locations.

As a Planning Assistant, you will have responsibility for processing your own caseload of household and minor planning applications, and will also be required to give advice and guidance to members of the public and developers on planning related issues. You will be coached and mentored to develop your skills and experience, to give you a solid foundation for your planning career.

Good organisational and communication skills are required, plus the ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure. You will have a strong customer service ethic with commitment to the Council's values to improve & innovate, put customers first and have respect for everyone. Previous experience in a planning field, or a planning degree would be advantageous, but there will be training and development provided, and opportunity to study for a Masters diploma in a relevant planning subject if you don’t already have a planning qualification.

Please note that you will require a full driving licence and access to a vehicle for work purposes together with the appropriate business cover insurance.
